    What is a Virtual Domain?
A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.yourdomain.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space; however, you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet Web address (www.yourdomain.com) and by your own personal e-mail addresses (e.g., you@yourdomain.com).

Check to see if your desired domain name is available.

    Who is Network Solutions?
Network Solutions is one of many independent organizations responsible for holding the registration and routing of .com, .net and .org domain names.

    top

Can I access my domain address with or without the "www"?
Yes. You will be able to access your domain address with or without the "www" in front of it. Example: [http://www.yourdomain.com] or [http://yourdomain.com] is acceptable.

    top

Do you offer dial-up Internet access?
No. You will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve e-mail addressed to your site. If you need help deciding which dial-up service to use in your area, then contact Tech@myTuffy.Net and we will try to make a recommendation.

    top

Do you handle International domain name registration?
Yes. We can house any valid domain extension. We do not provide forms to register non-U.S. domains. We do, however, provide a resource page of links to registration services from around the world.

    top

How long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once the domain name registration authority (e.g., Network Solutions, Register.com) announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes between 24 to 72 hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their Domain Name Server (DNS) records to reflect the new site's location. DNS translates a given domain name into an Internet Protocol (IP) address. An IP address identifies each computer on the Internet by a number. An IP number looks like 64.33.0.86. Organizations attached to the Internet are assigned blocks of addresses with which to number their computers. So, if you use the IP address to access a site, DNS is not used.

    top

Can I transfer an existing domain name to your servers?
Yes. Be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for the domain name registration authority to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with your own IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All e-mail and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When the registration authority announces the completion of the transfer, there will be a 24 to 72 hour propagation period during which visitors can go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours, you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access, you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.

When we file a modification, one of the current listed contacts must approve the move. Network Solutions (or whomever is the official maintainer of your domain) will send an e-mail that you must respond to in order to have the redirection of your domain completed. If the contact e-mail on your domain has changed from the time you originally registered it, you will need to fax an authorization to complete the process using a tracking number they will provide.

    top

What if Network Solutions has the wrong e-mail address to send the authorization for my modification?
You will need to create a Letter of Authorization for Domain Name Record Modifications. Follow Network Solutions on-line instructions for creating the letter and where to fax it.

NOTE: Please document the date and time you faxed the authorization, and the phone number from which you sent the fax. This information may be needed for follow-up action.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?
Yes. You have unlimited access via FTP and SSH 24 hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your convenience.

    top

Can I use my account for commercial purposes?
Yes. You can use your account for commercial purposes. The Web has become the most efficient and cost-effective means for making information available to the users of the Internet community, and we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium.

    top

Can I subdivide my space and resell it?
Yes. You can purchase additional FTP accounts with limited access to a specific directory as well as purchase Subhosts. In addition, an unlimited number of subhosts are possible for a fixed monthly fee.

    top

Can additional domains point to a subdirectory within my primary account?
Yes. This is an Add-on Feature called Subhosting.

    top

How long does it take to set up a new account?
New accounts are generally set up within 6 to 12 hours from the time we receive your order. Once an account is set up, an activation notice will be sent to you via e-mail including your userid, password, FTP hostname and other information. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately. You will be given an IP address to access your site via the Web prior to the completion of either domain registration or domain modification (transfer).

    top

    Do you provide tech support?
Yes. We encourage our customers in need of assistance to use the Client Support Desk for the quickest response. Or, you may Contact us through other channels. Tech support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

    top

Can I have additional domains pointing to the same index page as my primary domain?
Yes. This is referred to as "parking additional domains". There is a small additional setup fee for each additional domain parked. This is a great way to expand the marketing of your business.

    top

    Are third-level domains (anyname.yourdomain.com) available?
Yes. We can give you a third-level domain name such as anyname.yourdomain.com provided you have an existing account with us, but we do not allow yourname.myTuffy.Net. The advantage to these types of accounts is that there are no Network Solutions domain registration fees, except for your principle domain. The procedure to do this is to Park the third-level domain you wish to use, specify the sub-directory within your main account that you want the domain pointed to, then we activate a script that will redirect visitors to the third-level domain to the sub-directory. This is considered as subhosting.

    top

How can I change my domain name?
You will need to open a new account with us, and a new domain name will need to be registered.

    top

What if the monthly transfer is exceeded?
You will be notified ahead of time. There will be a small additional charge for excess traffic.

    top

Why do some companies offer unlimited data transfer/traffic? Why don't you?
Beware of those offering unlimited traffic! Unregulated traffic, especially when streaming audio is allowed, can be very taxing on a server causing slow response times and just poor system performance. To adequately accommodate such traffic, a provider would need to increase the number of T3 or DS3 lines. This, of course, is expensive and those costs would need to be passed on to the consumer. If the provider does not increase their bandwidth, but can offer very inexpensive solutions, then you as a their customer should prepare for poor performance from their web server(s).

    top

Are your servers and software Year 2000 compliant?
Measures have been taken so that the Year 2000 will not affect our systems. So far so good.

    top

What is the storage limit on the e-mail accounts?
The POP e-mail account limit is 10 megs per account.

    top

    Where are your servers located?
At present, all servers are located in the U.S. Specifically, the servers are located in the States of California, Connecticut, Florida and Illinois. Our Linux operations employ 4 redundant DS-3 multi-homed connections on 3 separate network backbone providers (Uunet, GTE and Global Frontier). Our NT operations have 4 full T3 lines through 2 independent backbone networks.

We suggest running traceroutes from your local systems to our domains to verify speed and performance, and then compare the results to the competition. Let us know what you find out.
